Welcome to My Personal Page-Jan Below, Colorectal Cancer Survivor
As you may....or may not know, in April of 2013 at age 57, I was diagnosed with Rectal Cancer. The only reason I went in for my colonoscopy was at the insistence of my primary doctors office after seeing my age and that I had not been screened at age 50. I argued that "I didn't have any symptoms" and "everything was fine". She said.....if you don't make that appointment, I WILL!!! So I did and unfortunately, because I let it go so long, those polyps that would of been easily snipped off, had turned into cancer.
I am grateful today for that push by my doctor....I was told that if I had waited another 6 months, this would of been a different story. I have since had a recurrence to my lung and had surgery in July of 2016 to remove the tumor. I am happy to report that my most recent scans (done last month) have me cancer free today!!
I'm participating in the 2018 Get Your Rear In Gear 5K Run/Walk, an event to benefit the Colon Cancer Coalition. I want to make a difference for the thousands of people in my community touched by colon cancer. The funds I raise will stay right here, helping with prevention, early detection and treatment for this disease.
This year again, we are walking/running in remembrance of my father in law, Ray Below who passed away in 1992 from colon cancer.
Please support my efforts to build hope and beat colon cancer! Thank you in advance for your help!
