Team Covey Love!!!
This year will be mark the 5th year I will be participating in the Annual Rear in Gear 5K run on Sunday, June 8th, 2014 in Prospect Park to support Team Covey Love.
It is hard to believe that five years have passed since my dear friend, Amy Covey (lovingly referred to by her friends as simply Covey), was taken from us after a three year battle with colon cancer at age 33. Covey was the best friend, sister, daughter, aunt and personal cheerleader anyone could ask for. She lived her life to the fullest, even moving to Santa Barbara after being diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer to pursue her dream of going to photography school. She never let cancer stand in the way of living the life she wanted to lead. She was one of a kind and her light, love and laughter are missed more and more each day.
As a tribute to her beautiful life and journey we started the annual Rear in Gear race in NYC in her honor. Over the past four years, your generosity has resulted in $80,000 being raised to support colon cancer awarness and education - specifically related to detection in young adults. As Covey was only 29 when she was diagnosed, education and awareness of colon cancer in young adults are supremely important. Most people believe that only people over the age of 50 get colon cancer, when in reality it can but can occur in patients as young as teenagers. Through this organization we are seeking to change that.
There are two ways you can help this fight:
- come run with me on Sunday, June 8th and join team Covey Love.
- consider making a donation in Amy's honor to this deserving organization.
